Dr. Ben and I had the privilege of providing eye exams to the residents at the Oxford Home for Children in Oxford NC this year (http://www.mhc-oxford.org/).

The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford is non-profit residential home which exists to care for disadvantaged and neglected children.  Children in the residential care program live in a family setting and receive quality care in a caring and stable environment.

One of our biggest concerns as eye doctors are young people who slip through the cracks so to speak. These kids may be labeled slow learners simply because they are working so hard to make print clear when they are reading, that by the time they do, little is left over for comprehension.

This is why eye exams are a crucial part of pediatric health care. Simply by identifying children who are farsighted or nearsighted, many of these problems can be avoided, thus increasing the quality of learning, and life of the child. We were able to do just that at the Oxford Home for Children. It was a wonderful experience.

Thanks to all that helped make it possible.,
